Winter Heart Fire

“Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,

Arrives the snow, and, driving o’er the fields,

Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air

Hides hills and woods, the river and the heaven,

And veils the farm-house at the garden’s end.

The sled and traveller stopped, the courier’s feet

Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit

Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed

In a tumultuous privacy of Storm.”

EMERSON, The Snow Storm.

The privacy of our own Winter storm allows room for the unconscious to wrestle with the Heart fire.  The last Winter flame that ignites from within, sets motion towards Spring. The questions that inevitably arise for New Year’s and perhaps more appropriately directed towards Winter Solstice; “Have you been good to yourself?”, “What tasks daunt the body in the warmer months to come?”, “What are our physical goals for the upcoming moons?”.

Let us set an intention.  Cherish yourself.

Off all the organs in the body, the heart is most prominent, and most ignored.  With it’s gentle beat, step by step, trucking on despite our sometimes horrible treatment, it resists and endures.  Use this soft, dark, limited time of Winter to honor it’s strength and commitment. Always there through heartbreaks, hangups, bad habits, grief, and glory; this empowered Yin force drives our heat, nutrients, and hopes.  The heart, blood, and fluid are thought of as Yin qualities in Chinese Medicine; harboring our silent strength and passion; nutrients and necessities. We turn to rich berries, dark chocolates, and lymphatic movement to support this system.

A sip of our Hawthorn Heart Elixir will surely do the trick.  This blend is beaming in anthocyanins with our wildcrafted local Douglas hawthorn berry protecting arteriole walls, a new introduction of peony root to nourish the female in all of us, rose for energetic opening, and a dash of cinnamon for lymphatic flow.  Sip it as a cordial, add it to tea, or top it on hot apple pie. Cherish yourself.

Not to diminish the physicalities of colds and flus; we’re promoting our Viral Punch TONIC which pairs nicely with our NEW Throat Spray coming out in our Winter Wellness Shares, January 19th.  Sign up for the share to get yours for sure, or risk the lines with our limited stock thereafter. Garden grown sloes (Blackthorn) with their rich plum presence are paired with buzz button (Spilanthes) to numb sore throats, meanwhile a hint of licorice (Glycyrrhiza) soothes inflamed tissues.

We’d tell you more, but then where’s the Heart-Joy surprise?  Hope to see you all there January 19th, Saturday, from 11-3pm for our Winter Release, or order online for delivery!
