Creating a Tea Ritual: An Exercise in Mindfulness
Sitting down for a cup of tea in the afternoon can be so much more dunking a teabag in hot water and gulping it down while working at the computer.
Creating a tea ritual with real loose leave teas and tisanes (herbal teas) is an opportunity to pause and slow down; an invitation to invigorate your mind and spirit; an invitation to nourish your body.
Brewing and sipping on tea can be an exercise in mindfulness, a ritual of intention to create a calming and undisturbed moment of clarity during an otherwise hectic and busy day. Mindful downtime allows you to stay focused.
The tea ritual slows us down and encourages us to be present in the moment.
Lately I have been collecting local handcrafted pottery to add to my tea ritual. Pottery that has been crafted with thought and intention brings a deep sense of connection to the ritual. I have recently added the most remarkable handcrafted teapot; her name is Mouda and she was named by my son. When I hold her I feel the positive energy she was created with. Mouda invites me to join her in mindful downtime. Something I am increasingly in need of this late winter.
