Devils Club + Nettle: Our Herbal Dark Chocolate 70% Cacao
Devil's club is a classic "heal all" in indigenous use. Medically we use it in diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and to regulate the adrenal/stress response. Nettles are a PNW treat used as a nutritive tonic, aides in allergies, and supports the kidney/urinary system.
Elderflower is a delicate herbal helpful in fever moderation and upper respiratory infections. Yarrow is our classic PNW ally, helping to create strong boundaries for the self, emotionally and physically.
Solomon's Seal is another "heal all" herb used throughout the United States. It can be used for joint pains, inflammatory conditions, rheumatology, dermatology and skin complaints, urinary/bladder problems, and much more.
*These herbs are safe to consume. Contraindications are only if there is a specific allergy to them.
We are stoked to introduce the first up in our new line for pregnancy, breast feeding, and kiddosOur Sick Ninja is the first in our Fern & Fiddle glycerite line and still one of our most popular. Meant for short term prevention (like when kiddos are returning to school after summer) or for when stuck with the crud. With a tasty melody of elderberry, echinacea, and anise, this formula is simple, effective, and pure. Elderberry has long been used as a respiratory cold/flu aid, delicious and jammy most kids are willing participants in its use. Echinacea or coneflower, helps to support white blood cell function leading to a gentle kick towards bacteria and viruses. Anise helps the medicine go down, and with just a hint this also helps with digestibility and compliance.
Ingredients: elderberry, echinacea, anise, and non-GMO glycerin
Calm Cool is for rough times, anxious moments, and overactive brains. Delicious and effective, our glycerite line is a hit for anyone in the family. Lemon balm is a breath of fresh air when moments get tough; being a member of the mint family it literally helps open the airways but has also traditionally been used to calm the nerves.
Catnip and peppermint (also in the mint family) help to ease the tension on the physical as well as mental plane. Gingko and gotu-kola help circulate oxygen to the brain and reminds us that a strong heart-brain connection helps to regulate our emotional state.
This can be used to help the anxious, hyperactive, and scattered; to the overwhelmed and frazzled. We often recommend Calm Cool to the wired brain at night that has a difficult time turning off for bed.
Ingredients: lemon balm, catnip, gingko, gotu kola, and peppermint in glycerin.
Our Fern & Fiddle line is safe and effective for kids, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. We use a glycerite base (instead of the typical alcohol) and all herbs are registered as safe (category A) for mamas and babies.
Good Belly is for the occasional indigestion, difficulty with foods, and stress bellies. Delicious and effective, our blend of chamomile, fennel, ginger, cardamom, and peppermint is a hit for anyone in the family. Take straight out of the bottle or add to tea, water, or seltzer. The spice flavor (cardamom and ginger) works as a bitter to support gastric secretion. Fennel helps to ease gas and indigestion, commonly called a carminitive in the herbal world. Peppermint works similarly and can also reduce stress and tension that sometimes comes with.
Ingredients: chamomile, fennel, ginger, cardamom, and peppermint and non-GMO glycerin
Be a boss. Take care of that cough with the latest addition to our Fern & Fiddle line: Cough Boss. With a base of local + wildcrafted chokecherries, this is sure to be a delicious hit, safe for pregnancy, kiddos, and breast feeding. Wild cherry bark is our traditional remedy for the barky cough, along with hyssop to cool it down. Anise and ginger help to round the formula with movement and action. Our Fern & Fiddle line is produced with non-gmo glycerin.
For kids and adults, our mullein and garlic ear oil is a classic, tried and true blend for earaches; acute and chronic. Add a couple drops to each ear as needed. For better results warm up the bottle (without the dropper in it) beforehand to lukewarm temperature before use, and always apply to both ears.
Mullein is more commonly referred to as a weed in our neck of the valley, but a useful one at that. We can still envision the herbal drawing of it now, ingrained into us by our beloved mentors. The root is for kidneys, it’s leaves for the lungs and its flowers for the ears.
Garlic is a well-known antimicrobial herb, studied at nauseum, and another wonderful example of #eatyourherbs which can be brought to an even more comprehensive practice. The combo together, garlic and mullein, is a well researched and effective topical blend for the common ailment at hand.
If you are in the know, then you have probably heard of this blend before but maybe not with the use of glycerin, rather it is used with oil. After multiple pediatric physician opinions and anecdotal information, we decided to use glycerin as a base in order for better visibility of the tympanic membrane (something that was more obstructed with the use of oil).
This blend is a part of our Fern & Fiddle line, appropriate for pregnancy, kiddos, and breastfeeding mamas (along with everyone else in the house).
Happy Beltaine! As we are now half way through Spring, our seeds of intentions have bloomed into flowery actions. For our offering to Spring we present to you our short run seasonal glycerite of Lilac. The smell is heavenly and the flavor unique. Try it in a delicate tea, drizzled in sparkling water, on top french toast, or straight from the bottle.
